The faience is twenty-six centuries old. The fragment is chosen first, the fitting is made to the ear that will wear it, and the gold is drawn around the glaze. Three decisions below, and the bench begins.

The fitting

The fragment is fixed; how it hangs is not. The fitting is made at the bench for the ear that will wear it, and it decides how the glaze sits against the face — flat to the lobe, or swinging free of it.

Fitting

A post holds the fragment flat against the lobe. A lever back and a hook both let it swing, and read longer. The clip is made for an unpierced ear and takes a week more at the bench.

Every piece travels with its passport: the printed record that documents the piece and stands as its certificate of authenticity. The last of its twelve entries says who owns it now, and that is where your name is printed. Leave the field empty and the line is issued blank, ready to be written by hand.

A commission is not a purchase: nothing is charged, and nothing is owed until the payment link is paid. Each piece of the Collections is made to your specification — fitting — and so falls outside the fourteen-day right of withdrawal (Article 16(c), Directive 2011/83/EU); this is restated in writing with the payment link, before anything is paid. The legal guarantee of conformity applies in full. Egyptian cultural material may not be imported into the United States under the bilateral agreement in force, so this piece is issued within the European Union and the United Kingdom alone. Export beyond the European Union runs on a prior authorisation, prepared by the workshop, and its time is added to the two weeks.

The earring
One Egyptian faience fragment of the Late Period, catalogued in full, held in 18k gold with the fitting you choose. The glaze is held at its edges alone, so the ancient face stays in view and the break itself is left to read as what it is.

The passport
Twelve entries, printed and folded into the case: reference, object, culture and period, materials, measurements and weight, condition, the record, what remains open, legal notes, care, the date of issue, and the name of the collector. It is also the certificate of authenticity, so one document carries both.

The box
The jewellery case the earring travels in, with the passport beside it and a cloth for the gold. It arrives closed, sealed and ready to be given.

The papers
The invoice under the margin scheme for antiques, and, for a destination beyond the European Union, the export authorisation prepared for this reference and issued in its own name.

The first week belongs to the drawing: the fragment chosen, measured and traced at scale. The second belongs to the bench: gold raised, faience set, fitting made and finished. A photograph of the finished earring travels ahead of the parcel.
